Inside the AGM battery, the positive and negative lead plate electrolyte is trapped inside the spacer, helping to improve electrolyte stratification and reduce grid corrosion. The lead plates and spacers are tightly compressed within the cell and housed in a durable plastic case. This extremely tight compression limits the "shedding" of plate material that occurs during battery cycling and greatly extends battery life. In addition, this compression helps to reduce internal resistance and maximize power output, thereby improving performance at low temperatures.
Sealed AGM cells lose very little water and recombine most of the gases within the cell. However, these cells are also designed with a valve to relieve any overpressure that may result from a small amount of outgassing during the charging process.
